The acronym ABA stands for Applied Behavioral Analysis and is a set of principles of Applied Behavioral Psychology in the clinical and learning field. The ABA method applies these laws to behavioral treatments to reduce unwanted behaviors and increase desired behaviors in people with ASD Autism Spectrum Disorders, achieving a better integration of the child with his environment. ABA therapies are used to improve the patient's linguistic and communication skills, increase attention, concentration, social skills, memory and academic performance. At the same time it helps reduce problem behaviors.

The Director General of Health of the United States and the American Psychological Association APA consider ABA methods among the most recommended practices, since they are well founded and based on empirical evidence. Currently it is expected that all the methodologies used in the clinic are based on evidence, which implies meeting criteria of utility, quality and efficacy.

The most common problem behaviors seen in autism are self-harm, aggression, stereotyping, hyperactivity, tantrums, withdrawal, sleep disturbances, and eating problems. ABA techniques allow each of these aspects to be worked on separately to achieve a better adaptation of the person with ASD to their environment and an inclusive education. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Colombia determines that ABA therapies must be applied by a health professional who has also been trained in behavioral techniques such as ABA, who is prepared to design the strategies to be used in each particular case. and verify the behavioral evolution of each applied program. In addition, you must know how to differentiate between ABA methods and treatments that have scientific evidence from those about which there is scientific doubt about their scientific seriousness. Taking the above into consideration, the importance of offering highly specialized instructional educational programs that allow people dedicated to the clinical field with ASD to remain in professional training and to update themselves in the knowledge and application of techniques included in the Mandatory Health Plan is evident. POS. The Statutory Health Law (Law 1751 of February 16, 2015) established in its Article 5 that it corresponds to the state to "Formulate and adopt policies that promote health promotion, prevention and care of disease and rehabilitation of its consequences, through collective and individual actions”.

It also proposes "Performing continuous monitoring of the evolution of the health conditions of the population throughout the life cycle of people". But it establishes the condition in its Article 15 that "Public Health resources may not be used to finance services or technologies, for which there is no scientific evidence on their safety and clinical efficacy." Therefore, everyone dedicated to the clinical field must be trained to offer the service they offer, which must also be based on scientific evidence.
