Course – Invasive species in Colombia: Control and management measures

Know the invasive aquatic species that are currently in our country, and their impacts on ecosystems and native species, as well as learn the current and potential mechanisms for their control and management.

• Taxonomically identify the main invasive aquatic species.
• Determine the possible impacts that invasive aquatic species can generate on the biotic, abiotic and socio-economic environments.
• Establish the possible risk represented by an invasive aquatic species, or the introduction of foreign species with invasive potential.

Know the control and management measures of these species, as well as the mechanisms of use and exploitation that are being implemented in the country.

Invasive aquatic species have generated a series of environmental, social and economic impacts in our country, so it is vitally important to know the possible control and management measures that are being developed or that can be implemented in the future, in order to prevent their dispersal or keep their populations low enough to reduce the impacts of these species.

This course is aimed at people who want to learn about invasive alien species in bodies of water in our country, their impacts and possible control and management measures. It may be taken by officials from environmental entities (Regional Autonomous Corporations, National Natural Parks of Colombia), non-governmental organizations, private companies, public sector officials, environmental science students (biology, ecology, aquaculture, etc.), among others.

The course will be developed through the virtual classroom of the Universidad del Sinú, which uses the MOODLE platform; In this space, all the academic material will be uploaded and spaces for interaction between the teacher and the students will be advanced through chat, forums, workshops and other virtual tools available on the platform. Virtual classes will be held through the WEBEX platform, complemented by other electronic resources.
